True Story Film Nights

July 28 @ 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

|Recurring Event (See all)
Weekly on the same day until August 11, 2017

Since we have been immersing ourselves into the Biblical story, we also want to look at the main stories our culture is telling and how they relate to the True Story of the World. One of the primary vehicles of storytelling in our society is the medium of film. Movies not only portray fictional plots for our entertainment, they also echo the honest hopes and hurts of the human heart. Good movies resonate with us because every good story, in some way, reflects aspects of the Biblical story — the goodness of creation, the tragedy of the fall, a hero that makes things right, and a longing for a happy ending.

Therefore, we will be hosting True Story Film Nights each Friday night this summer. They will feature a well known movie that we’ll watch together and then discuss afterward. These movies will include a diversity of genres such as drama, documentary, science fiction, animation, horror, and musical. We plan to tackle such topics as family, friendship, vocation, technology, consumerism, justice, race, and refugees. In addition, there will be exploration of themes like suffering, prayer, doubt, faith, persecution, and temptation. We’re not showing the movies because we endorse the worldview they espouse, but because they are good stories that will provide a springboard for conversation about our lives, culture, and how to be disciples who live “All of Life, All for Jesus.”
